  • Why does the BaDAP database show fewer AGH patents than the UPRP e-search engine?
The AGH Authors and Publications Database (BaDAP) records publications by employees, doctoral students, and students of the AGH University of Krakow. The UPRP e-search engine database, on the other hand, covers all patent documents for which the AGH University of Science and Technology is the patent holder, regardless of whether the patent authors are AGH employees, doctoral students or students or not.
List of patent applications/descriptions with AGH entitlement, which do not include the names of AGH creators (document in Polish)
  • How to generate a PDF file from the BaDAP database with visible scores for patent publications?
After logging into the BaDAP database (e-mail address in the @agh.edu.pl domain), click Raports, select from the drop-down Lists, and then Publication Indicators. After searching for the relevant publications, click on the printer icon Print. The pdf file will be generated automatically.

PATLIB centers in Europe

The history of our Center dates back to the 1950s. It was then that an agreement was concluded between the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and the Main Library regarding the free transfer of Polish patent descriptions to the AGH Main Library. In 1992, a new agreement was signed with the UPRP, under which the Patent Information Center was formally established, operating within the structures of the AGH Main Library. Thanks to closer cooperation with the Office, the Library's capabilities in providing patent information services have been significantly expanded. In addition to the Polish patent descriptions, official bulletins, and other publications provided free of charge by the UPRP, the Patent Information Center gained access to the first full-text databases of the ESPACE series with international documentation, published at that time on CD/DVD media. The Library was obliged to provide patent information not only to AGH students and employees, but also to anyone outside the University community interested in industrial property protection.

With Poland's accession to the European Patent Convention, the status of existing patent information centers in the country has changed. They have become part of the PATLIB network, supported by the European Patent Organization (EPO), which includes the national patent offices of member countries and patent information centers operating in those countries. There are approximately 300 such centers throughout Europe, providing local access to patent information. The OIP at BG AGH is one of 25 centers operating in Poland. The primary task of PATLB centers is to provide all interested parties with access to patent information and to raise awareness of the benefits of legal protection of industrial and intellectual property. In connection with these changes, a new cooperation agreement was concluded between the UPRP and AGH in 2005. In addition to the existing rules, the centers were given the opportunity to take advantage of EPO support programs, such as access to patent databases, training for employees, and the opportunity to participate in the annual PATLIB conference..

At the PATLIB Summit in 2019, representatives of patent information centers from across Europe adopted a set of recommendations — in a document called the Porto Paper — aimed at increasing EPO support for the PATLIB network. In 2021, the PATLIB 2.0 program was announced, designed to give impetus to expanding the range of services provided by patent information centers in all countries belonging to the European Patent Organization. The PATLIB center at BG AGH is actively participating in the PATLIB 2.0 initiative. The licensed patent information sources available at BG AGH, such as Derwent Innovation and Orbit Intelligence, as well as the services provided, have allowed the Center to qualify at the Advanced level.
