OUR TASKS

The main aim of the Regional Patent Information Centre is ensure all interested users free access to patent information.

To carry out the main aim, we will adopt the following actions:

  1. Acquisition, cataloguing, circulation patent documentation and literature on traditional and electronic media.
  2. Provide information on IP procedures, different kinds of IP rights, the requirements for filing an IP application, fees, search possibilities, etc. Legal advice is not included in this service;
  3. Cooperation with other PATLIB Centres, European Patent Office, Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and other institutions involved with protection of industrial property.
  4. Organizing training sessions (seminars, workshops) concerning IP rights, databases, search techniques and other IP related issues.
  5. Participate in IP seminars and courses organised by EPO, Patent Office RP and other institutions.
Services:
  • The reading room provides the public with access to national, European and international IP documentation;
  • PATLIB staff advises the public how to search and how to retrieve relevant documents. Visitors may search IP databases free-of-charge using the workstations provided;
  • The PATLIB centre provides a copies of IP documents (paper and electronic documents);
  • The PATLIB centre provides information on IP procedures, different kinds of IP rights, the requirements for filing an IP application, fees, search possibilities, etc. Legal advice is not included in this service;
  • The PATLIB centre organizes training sessions (seminars, workshops) concerning IP rights, databases, search techniques and other IP related issues.


OUR USERS

The Regional Patent Information Centre carries out IP searches for:

  • employees and students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow,
  • students and employees of other state universities or colleges in Cracow,
  • patent agents,
  • inventors and researches,
  • representatives of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Access to all of Centre collection is available to all on site in reading room.

Visitors may search patent information databases free-of-charge using the workstations provided.

  • Polish Patent Office's Official Journal: Bulletin of the Patent Office (BUP), Communications of the Patent Office (WUP), International Patent Classification (IPC), International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification), International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification), International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification)
  • journals: "Nowator XXI", "Patent", "Innowacje w Europie", "CORDIS", "Inpadoc Patent Gazette Newsletter", "Patent Information News";
  • literature related to inventiveness;
  • manuals, encyclopaedias, vocabularies, conference proceedings.

HISTORY

University of Science and Technology in Cracow is working with the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland continuously since 1924.
The main stages of this collaboration include:

  1. The fifties. The agreement between these institutions in the range of free transfer of Polish patents from the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland to the Main Library of University of Mining and Metallurgy.
  2. The nineties. Closer cooperation between these institutions in the range of free transfer from the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland to the Library of University of Mining and Metallurgy: Polish patents, the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland own official publications, such as "Communications of the Patent Office" and "Bulletin of the Patent Office" and full-text databases on CD: Espace-World, Espace-Access (A), Espace-Preces. (30.07.1992 - Cooperation agreement between the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and the Main Library of University of Mining and Metallurgy. Patent Information Centre was placed within the structures of the Main Library.)
  3. 01.03.2004, Republic of Poland joins The European Patent Convention (EPC). All patent information centers existing in Poland have become part of a network PATLIB. PATLIB, short for PATent LIBrary it is a network, which gathers all national patent offices in the Member States and patent information centers. Across the Europe, there are about 300 such points that provide local access to patent information. AGH UST Patent Information Centre in Cracow, is one of 27 centers operating in Republic of Poland.
  4. 31.01.2005, New agreement about cooperation between the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and the Main Library of University of Science and Technology. In the repercussion of this agreement Regional Patent Information Centre was opened within the structure of the Main Library of AGH UST.
  5. 17.09.2005, In the Main Library of AGH UST was a seminary entitled "Cooperation with the European Patent Office" organized.
  6. 23.05.2006, Conference in Prague "PATLIBs serving innovation".
  7. 20.11.2006, Seminary in Cracow "Patents and technology transfer".
  8. 25-26.09.2007, Workshop "Strengthening the protection of intellectual and industrial property rights" - Cracow AGH University of Science and Technology.
  9. 21.11.2008, Workshop in Cracow "Intellectual property in pharmacy - current issues".
  10. 25.05.2012, Free workshops for employees AGH UST - "Strategies to explore the patent databases" - Cracow AGH University of Science and Technology.
  11. 8-9.05.2014, "EPO Patent Information Tools" - workshop - Cracow, the Main Library of AGH UST.
  12. 16.01.2015, Workshop The system for worldwide filing of patent applications - Cracow, the Main Library of AGH UST.
  13. 15.04.2015, Andrzej Kacperski - talk "Revocation of Polish and European patents having effect in Poland" - Cracow, the Main Library of AGH UST.
